About the CoLaborator San Francisco
Our San Francisco CoLaborator is located next door to our West Coast Innovation Center in the Mission Bay neighborhood in the heart of the city’s thriving life sciences cluster. The unique incubator space for start-up companies is within walking distance of UCSF, QB3, the Gladstone Institutes, several venture capital groups, and more than 60 emerging life science companies, making the Mission Bay location well-suited to support the success of a start-up company. By providing start-ups with infrastructure and capital equipment, Bayer helps alleviate the barriers to quickly begin the experiments needed to advance their companies.
The CoLaborator’s design is a flexible, open floor plan with more than 30,000 square feet and two floors of shared, rented lab space. The environment fosters opportunities for idea exchange by bringing together researchers covering topics in oncology, cardiovascular disease and digital solutions to drug discovery. The first floor of the CoLaborator is designed to allow new companies to acquire lab and office space at a small, cost-effective scale. The CoLaborator also includes a larger space designed for more mature companies to refine and scale their technologies to bring them to the clinic or advance them to a larger customer base
The CoLaborator creates additional opportunities for collaboration and engagement by hosting regular events. Events are designed to bring together start-ups and Bayer researchers in a casual, interactive environment.

About the West Coast Innovation Center
San Francisco began transforming the Mission Bay redevelopment area in 1998, envisioning it as a powerful engine of discovery and economic growth. In just over two decades, this former rail yard has become a mixed-use, transit-oriented development with more than 4.4 million square feet dedicated to office, life science and biotechnology commercial space, creating a world-class cluster thriving on synergies between academia and industry, established institutions as well as start-ups. Since its inception, more than 60 life science companies, venture capital firms, QB3, and the UCSF Medical Center make Mission Bay a unique place where start-up life science firms can flourish.
Bayer has had a strong presence in the San Francisco Bay Area for decades. As one of the top Bay Area biotech employers in the region, we boast manufacturing and development operations locally. Our footprint in the Bay Area includes every step of the therapeutic process: from early stage research and innovation through partnerships and licenses with the goal of development through manufacturing.
In 2011, Bayer opened its West Coast Innovation Center in Mission Bay to enable our scientists to engage with academic institutions and life science firms and forge new drug discovery collaborations. Shortly after establishing our presence in Mission Bay, Bayer strengthened its ties in the neighborhood by striking a long-term master agreement with the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) to facilitate collaboration with scientists at this world class institution.
